HOW COVID-19 IS HELPING THE MAFIA GROUPS IN CEMENTING THEIR POWER

THE SITUATION AFTER THAT THE SANITARY CRISIS WILL BE SOLVED 


Today is Saturday, April 25, that means that in Italy is the Liberation day, but Italians are still in lockdown. Some companies will open and people will be free to move, at least in their cities, only from Monday, 4 May. The deadline is very close and now the biggest problem, after the sanitary crisis, will be how to solve the economic situation.

 Many companies will be failed, others will have important loans with the banks. In this period, where there is no cash, people are looking for financial (and not only) help. The government is losing many moneys due to the situation and can’t provide many benefits. This means that people have to find help from a different source: in many cases the mafia and other criminal organizations are ready to support them. Now it’s not so important the source from where you receive the money, but that you can survive. In fact, a report by Europol - the European Union police agency - warns that
The pandemic has opened up a business opportunity for predatory criminals in counterfeit masks, pharmaceuticals and fake coronavirus tests. But The Mafia groups are giving even basic necessities and money in cash, in order to help concretely the citizens. 


WHY AND HOW THE MAFIA GROUPS ARE SUBSTITUTING THE STATE 


The economic Journalist Luca Zorloni reported in an article for Wired Italy, that mafia groups are aiming higher, using the pandemic to increment their power. The Italian Mafia is a sort of family that seems, at least at the beginning, to help and protect you. They give you some money, asking for a small tax in return. In this way they are substituting the state. Some people couldn't allow to survive without their support. In the newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano, the policeman Francesco Gabrielli said the Mafia can guarantee the welfare, because it has always invested in first necessity sectors, what common people really need.

 But, how can Mafia organize itself in these days? Roberto Saviano, an Italian author who have been put under police escort after receiving threats for his books on organized crime, thinks that even the Italian Mafia, as everybody, was uninformed and didn’t expected that a virus would have ruined Italy and the all world. China, the place where everything has started, at the beginning have kept the information hidden from the media. In the meanwhile, the virus migrated all over the world. Only when it was obvious, they told what it was happening. That was the moment in which even the Mafia began to react to the phenomenon.

 Every emergency becomes the focus for the media and during these times there are no more spaces for criminal organizations on the newspapers and on the TV schedules. So, they can operate undisturbed. In addition, in this time there is more control on boarders for the people but not for the goods that can easily go through the states. For this reason, this problem regards not only Italy but all the states over the world since the Mafia is from long time even in Spain, Germany and in general in Europe.

After the 4 May, the sanitary crisis will be hopefully resolved, but not the problem regarding the Mafia groups, that will be going on to operate hidden and maybe stronger than before. The governments should be able to find concrete ways to hep the citizens in order not to feed the illegality.

THE MAN OF THE MODERNITY

Who is the man of the modernity? I asked this question to myself so many times ... He is no more a perfect proportioned body as he was considered in the Ancient Greece and captured by the sculptor  Prassitele,  but neither a moral father who has the power to take decision for all the family, as the stereotypical image during the Middle Age (lead in the Italian movie  Padre Padrone  of Taviani's brothers). Recently in Italy happened something regarding this: The Fashion Week took place in Milan and the Gucci's new seasons collection was debated a lot. Why? Because the  Manifesto , ideated by the art director  Alessandro Michele  called  Masculine, Plural  delineated the man of the modernity, who is free from society and from the classical rules usually attributed to a man (like not wearing a skirt, for example).
